I am an artist from Hawick, working in Aberdeen. I graduated from Gray’s School of Art in 2018.
I aim to create work of a dreamy and childlike nature – lost memories, warped by photographs, other peoples’ accounts, and rethinking the same scene so many times it becomes something totally removed.
I use obsession and repetition within my work to fully explore and resolve my ideas – linking back to the idea of slowly removing it from the original source. I use painting and sewing to portray memories from my childhood. There is an intentional naivete to the way I compose and create work, to evoke a sense of play, hope, and understanding.
In turning the memory or photo into a piece of work, I turn it into legend, into my own tale to tell. By painting this personal, enclosed, familial object, I transform it into something public. Through the outsiders interpretation and understanding, I can respond to and reshape my work, taking it further from the source, and including more people in its influence.
